FEAR

Fear is a mixed-media installation from my MFA thesis project Home / Unhome, exploring how fear becomes embedded within personal memory, cultural identity, and experiences of displacement. Rather than presenting fear as an emotion to be overcome, the work investigates how it can be transformed through reconnecting with cultural roots, embodied ritual, and acts of remembrance. The installation combines large-scale vinyl graphics, animation, and performance to create an immersive environment where traditional Persian visual motifs are reinterpreted as emotional landscapes. A projected performance of Sama (whirling) unfolds within this altered space, while animated forms emerge, surround the body, and gradually dissolve through continuous movement. Drawing from personal experience and Persian cultural traditions, Fear reflects on the relationship between memory, resilience, and belonging. The work proposes that healing is not achieved by erasing the past, but by engaging with it—allowing cultural memory and ritual to become sources of strength, continuity, and transformation.
